	Turmeric, like ginger, comes from the family of rhizomes that have fibrous roots, which grow and multiply underground. Turmeric has agreeable aromatic qualities and a warm spicy flavor when fresh. Turmeric is used to impart a bright yellow color to curries, sauces and other seasonings.
